Default Admin timeout from logged session - suggestion

Hi,

In real life of working in the admin section (be it a template, order processing, or product detail), there are a number of things that may require moving back and forth between working windows... preparing images that are to be integrated with a product description, researching a particular bit of code to use on a template, etc. And some of those non-prostores tasks will be longer than the time-out window.

I'm finding that I'm occasionally being timed out without having saved my work product, so when I hit "submit and save" action, it goes to the timed-out login fail page... and I've lost my work. In other words, my session had already timed out in the background, though I'm still able to work on the current interface and don't realize I've lost the session until I try to save it.

I don't find that to be best practice on the design of that.

I suggest one of two approaches:

A) give a pop-up warning that timeout will occur in 2 minutes if no action is taken.

or

B) have existing approach, but if on an "edit" view of product details or page template, give pop-up that time-out will occur, with 2-minute option for user to save/abandon changes made.

If user is still at the computer, user will be able to take action. Else, the time out will occur for reasons that this was implemented (i.e., admin user has left the computer, possibly compromising security).

This is how my bank website is set up.

If there is no activity on the page within 10 minutes, a small pop-up warning appears saying "You have been inactive for more than 10 minutes, click here to continue being logged-in or click here to leave the website"

I think your suggestion is a great one and I hop TPTB at ProStores read it.

Do away with the "Timed out" all together. 90% of the time I'm working in the admin section I have to leave the computer for long periods of time for business. When I am able to get back to what I was working on I've been "Timed Out" and I lose what I was working on and I have to start over again. This feature is not work productive at all.

Being able to have some control over the time out rates would be wonderful. There is a balance between security and ease of use and right now it seems to be unbalanced in favor of the security side of things. Even a way to extend the session would be a good starting point, too many times we have lost data because of this time out which is even more frustrating then having to constantly re-log into the system.

2 months and no response from Prostores?

Many of us have to multi-task in our businesses, stopping to help our customers or employees while entering new products or or managing our stores. Losing 5-10 minutes AND data several times a day is very frustrating.

PLEASE HELP!

You can just open a new tab and go to your import status page and it will automatically refresh every 30 seconds, letting you still work in your other tab.

From main page right click Today's Reports Order/visit ratios link and open in new tab and you will be set quickly. They will chatch on so close it when you are done or that option will be closed to us also.
