Default NO Clue....

We have been updating our store, http://www.everayla.com, on a daily basis so there have been alot of changes. We have been on the web for a little over 2 years. It has been a while since we have made a sale and we can't seem to find why, so... Could you take a look at our site and tell us if there is something that is steering customers away? We would greatly appreciate it!

Just some thoughts that I got when I get to the site. The banner is alright (if you made it yourself you might want to feather the eclipse and square on the top layers and maybe play with the hues and saturation some.

The logo seems to be sized wrong for the area its in so it appears a bit squashed for a lack of a better way to describe it.

The categories list is small to me (but then again I wear glasses). Its a personal preference but I think categories should use the and instead of & because of SEO.

A Major thing that jumps out at me is your favicon is still ProStores favicon. If you don't know how to create one I can whip you up one in less than a minute and send it to you based on your logo or something if you like. That to me is a big no no leaving it like that.

Your about us page needs more information less from a story telling feel and more from a professional business writing feel. More fact less we can tell you this or that feel to it. At least 2 paragraphs minimum. People want to know when you started the business, where it is located is good to know, Do you have staff members? and if not maybe a bit about why you decided to do this business or a bit about the owners, etc

Create a contact us page and then you can just link to that page and be sure to put the contact us link in the navigation in an area that people can see from the front page clearly and while they are shopping.

Quote:
Most in-stock products ship within 5 business days.

I am curious myself why if an item is in stock you need 5 business days to ship it? I would stop right there if I was shopping from any site that doesn't explain that one in detail.

I would change the xxx days til Christmas to a holiday more at hand and coming up soon such as Father's day especially considering your products seem to be appropriate for giving to a man for Father's Day.

I would also take the time off of the page either on the top or the bottom or both and change it to your local time zone not the GMT unless your primary business is international.

I didn't see any Meta Keywords and the description to me didn't make sense it was more like a list of keywords.

I think I would also move the "Home" link to the far left of the nav which is where I generally expect to find it on a website when I am browsing.

That is plenty of rambling to be mind numbing I'm sure. I hope none of it discourages you but certainly paying for ProStores for 2 years and getting hardly any sales is not a good way to spend your time and money.

Final thoughts as a must do. Separate your contact us to its own page and get that link in the top navigation it helps to build confidence.

Show us what payment methods you accept visible from all pages or at the very least on the home page.

I might have missed it but you also need at least a basic privacy policy. People are scared of having their data stored/sold by unreliable online stores. It happens to lots of ecommerce sites all the time. All it takes is one bad employee to ruin your reputation forever. Shoppers want some assurance you are not collecting and selling their data. They want to know they are safe in your hands.

Anyone can claim to be safe but I see nothing on the site showing you have SSL, BBB, or any certificate of any kind that promotes your a reliable business. Not everyone can afford to get their own SSL that ProStores requires you to use right away but that simple little SSL certificate button no matter who the issuer is helps to build customer confidence.

BBB can be expensive too especially if you don't have the sales to support the cost but I know many on here have stated it really increased their conversion rate.

There are some other businesses that will verify your store or you as a seller and give you a button to post on your site. One thing you might also want to do is take advantage of the find's upfront button. All you have to do for that is go to thefind.com and claim your store and fill out all of the information and put your links in there. It takes a few minutes but when you are finished you can put their "upfront" button in the header/footer or somewhere and it will increase your rank in the find's search results.

If you don't have a Facebook fan page yet you should do that and twitter. Lots of threads in here about how to do that I think. Make sure you become a fan of ProStores facebook.com/prostores and add your store in their discussion board. You can add your store to the fan page I did for prostores merchants at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Prosto...16122425071007

starrfinancial,
Wow.. GREAT analysis !!!
Hope you can visit our company's site and give me some advice too.

everayla,

just some thought from my point of view...
I think it will be better if you show pictures with the consistence size & background color (on product listing page and product detail pages).

Also photo enlarging option on product detail page would be nice too.
sometime, people want to see the product in larger view.

Blueskyave Thanks. I almost don't like giving feedback because I say too much lol. I can visit your site and give you a critique if you like. Have you already posted a thread somewhere asking for one? If you haven't why don't you stop by our facebook page and of course "like" us (still getting used to that instead of the bookmark or fan) and post your website there so we can visit it and post your fan page in the discussion board so we can add it to our favorites.

FYI I am in no way an expert just things I know from my shopping experiences and my experience on creating websites. We have posted a discussion topic on the fan page http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?ui...71007&topic=81 on how to get an official critique. I don't mind doing them here when I see them requested but since I get a notice for every post there it is faster than here on the PS board.

There are so many variable that can lead to sales. Prices, web ranking, properly working carts etc.

Start with www.grader.com for some ideas.

I do not see a phone number on your home page, I would suggest adding one.

Too many categories on your left side. Can you condense some and make them pop out sub categories?

I did not check, but do you have meta and key word descriptions for all of your pages and items?

Remove the Christmas count down.

I think your logo should be in your banner, along with your payment terms and phone number.

Are you agressively marketing your site? SEO optimization is important.

Good Luck and I hope sales pick up for you.

Default A Few Thoughts

  • Change your content area background color to white.
  • Change your categories color to black.
  • Nix the "days 'til Christmas" entirely.
  • Nix the time/date.
  • You need your main keywords in text on your home page. Write 2-4 sentences that are keyword-rich and link them to categories.
  • Write your titles in proper case - 1st letter of words capitalized, not all letters capitalized.
  • Service: You say what your business hours are, except you called it phone hours, then didn't include the phone number...Add a physical address too.
  • As stated, use "and" instead of "&".
  • Add the Product List subcategories links - see the post "SSML Geek Needed".
  • Your About Us has some Service info.
  • As stated, in-stock items should be shipped within 24 hours, 48 hours max. Any longer than that can get you into trouble with the credit card companies. The exception is for future billing agreements.
  • Customers like to see payment types, shipping choices and contact info on the home page. If you add those to the header &/or footer it will help.
  • Good photos/images help. Remember, people are buying pretty much sight unseen. 400px width is best IMHO. Any smaller - makes it hard to see detail; any larger - you're dealing with page load times taking longer. You can always link to a larger than 400px image using a text link or javascript call.
  • Ideally, I think you should re-structure your categories. Put like things together: Hunting, Fishing, Hiking, etc. It should help navigation in that items are more easily found, plus your list wouldn't be as long.
  • If you don't accept credit cards, get them! Get a Merchant Account.
  • You have inconsistent thumbnail sizes. Try 125px. They have to see an image enough to want to click on it.
  • Why do you have the word Categories twice in the left column?
  • Your GA code should be in the footer, just before the </body> tag.
  • In your meta description, change "we" to your store name. Write it as a sentence of 25 words or less.
  • When you use a hyphen leave a space before and after it. Check your custom titles!
  • The listings that say one saves 0% is a turn-off....
  • Your lack of keywords needs immediate correcting! Keywords aren't as important as they once were, but they are important. Fill in your listings completely.
  • Use consistent font styles site wide.

PROMOTE! Looking professional is only part of the job.

Darn Celebra you have a way with words Great advice I meant to mention the google code.

As I was told once not too far in the past by a friend when I was telling her I didn't like feeling pushy about getting a successful sale, "If you don't toot your own horn, who is going to do it for you?" and "If you aren't proud enough to ask for the sales, who would want to buy from you?"

If you don't have a merchant account I found this checklist useful. There are two different things on this page I am linking to. No idea who created the checklists but I know even if you have done this a long time its never too late to do these steps.

A 30 dollar minimum purchase??? Why?

Do you realize how many sales you may have lost because of that little requirement. what's up with that?

I just put 5 items in my cart. the total for the items was 27.95 . The shipping was $12.69 for a total sale of $40.64 and when I click checkout I get a message that says I have not met the required minimum of $30.00! Really?? Are you kidding me?!

So you post a question asking why you have no sales? Really?

You are charging a shipping fee, so why require a minimum? Hell, I'd sell a stick of gum to anyone so long as they were paying the frieght. You will never make it in ecommerce doing business like that.

Your site design is the least of your problems. (although I'd definitley work on that too.)

Thank you all so much for the wonderful tips. I will start working on improving all of these things.

"Starrfinancial" You were talking about the favicon and I agree, so if you could give me steps to create one or a site that explains it, and I will give it a shot on my own.

We put 5 days for instock items because of our supplier. Should we put it in the policies that we do so because of them? I didnt even think that that would steer people away, so thank you for pointing it out.

"Packsecure" We are getting meta tags and keywords updated gradually, since we upload them without them and manually add them.

We have made the categories as condensed as possible, when we update items we have to have certain categories so that is why there are so many.

We do have a phone number in the Service page but I agree we could put it on the home page as well.

"celebra1" We are resizing the pictures as we update but with so many items it is slow going.

I agree about the 0% off and that too is a slow fix but we are getting there.

"bobthebugman" Thanks for being so 'upfront', we have the $30 minimum because we have the fees to pay and that sort of thing... I will talk to the EO owner and see if we could lower that...

Thank you all for your advice. Let me know if you have any more tips or questions.
